Eolian Solar Car Telemetry

About

Eolian is an R&D project, developed at the University of Chile, that builds and develops solar cars. I was the founder and leader of the Software Team inside the project, responsible for creating a comprehensive IoT system, from sensor data acquisition to real-time web visualization.

A great achievement was made in 2017, when the car rode around 2,000 km from Santiago to Arica, using only solar energy.

Features

• Developed embedded software for Arduino-based data loggers to collect telemetry data from various sensors (temperature, voltage, current, GPS, etc.)
• Integrated Xbee modules for wireless communication.
• Built a Node.js backend to receive, process, and store telemetry data in a PostgreSQL database.
• Created a real-time web dashboard using React.js and WebSockets to visualize telemetry data, including graphs, maps, and alerts.
• Implemented data analysis tools to generate reports and insights on vehicle performance.

Role

As the Software Team Lead, I coordinated a group of computer science students, overseeing the development of both embedded and web applications. I designed the system architecture, ensured seamless integration between components, and maintained high code quality standards throughout the project.
